Loteria Card Sheet & Cards

Digital Art

Senior Capstone Project, Spring 2021

Growing up in a strict household and being the eldest, many responsibilities started off at such a young age. As a woman in a Hispanic household, many expectations and duties are given as a young girl. Dressing up in your favorite clothes, speaking up for yourself wasn’t allowed because you were expected to act like your parent’s way. The artist wanted to show the feminist side of her, by portraying different roles of women doing different jobs, with a description given with an adjective at the bottom of each card. All whilst each card had a hidden message on the back of the card when put together it creates a special message for girls that reads “You’re Unique” in Spanish. The colors were mainly inspired by the bright traditional Mexican colors used originally in the Loteria deck, with a twist of superheroine comic book style. The artist chose to fuse these two passions of hers into one, and inspire young female artists to stay strong as superheroines as they are and strive for their dreams, despite the comments that others might say, because you are unique, and that’s what makes you different.
